It is not a diagnostic evaluation and it does not produce a report for a benefits claim. It answers one question: is there enough here to warrant a proper test?
People who will not book an audiology appointment will often sit down for ten minutes at a place they already are, among people they already know. That is the entire logic. A meaningful share of the veterans we screen at posts have never had their hearing tested since service.
A surprising proportion of apparent hearing loss at screening is occluding cerumen. It is not dangerous, it is common, and it is resolved in a single appointment. We will tell you if that is what we see rather than referring you into a longer pathway you may not need.
You get a plain explanation of what we saw, in writing, and a specific next step - a full evaluation, a medical referral, or a conversation about VA benefits if service connection looks plausible. We do not charge for the screening and we do not sell hearing aids at these events, because a sales conversation at the moment someone learns they have hearing loss is not a fair one.
